This picture is from The National Archives and shows rows of frame houses in a hilly area of Pittsburgh. The background of the picture shows smoke-shrouded throughout the city. This picture was taken in the year 1940. The smoke in the back of the city can be seen as pollution from the factories and industries.
I think that today cities have done a much better job with keeping polution down which makes it nicer to look at and better for the enviornment
