This is New York City at night in 1935 from the National Archives. I find this picture to be interesting because it shows New York city from a really high view so people can get a good description of what it really looked like back then. From this picture NYC looks similar to what it looks like today.

I found this picture of some flapper girls in the city during the 1920s. When I think of the 1920s, I automatically think of the flapper girl. I think this picture really shows what a typical flapper girl looked like. The women all have short bob hair and dresses that do not cover them up completely.  They just look like 5 friends hanging out; they do not look like mothers or daughters or wives, just normal women.  This picture reminds me of Sex and the City and how there was always a shot of the Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte walking down the street of New York City.  Flapper girls are very interesting and iconic people.

Philadelphia in 1920

This is a picture of Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA.  I just thought this was a cool picture because I have stood on this street many times and i recognize the town hall in the background.  This picture does not show how crowded the cities were during this time but you can see people walking on the sidewalk and the cars on the street.

Tenement Life 1860-1910

I found this video on youtube and thought it was really interesting because it ties into what we talked about last class which was the workers in the city in the 1900s. The guy who made it wanted to see how his immigrant ancestors from Ireland lived in New York when they arrived in the late 1800s.  He found pictures from the NYC Department of Tenement and some of the pictures were taken by Jacob Riis and I thought that was cool because we looked at some of his pictures in our last class.  The video only features pictures but I think they really show how the immigrants lived in the American city.  The end of the video features a clip from one of the first Motion Pictures by Thomas Edison.

Amusement at Coney Island

Coney island was a major attraction in the New york city. This shows one entertainment aspect that the city had to offer. This brought tourism into the city and generated revenue off of its attractions.

Coney Island is still around and this is a more modern look at it.
